An original Rumah Joglo, a traditional Javanese residential house made of solid Teak, serves as the GARASI Garden & Kitchen main building. During former times on the island of Java, the Joglo’s ornamentation and craftsmanship reflected the inhabitants’ social status and was typically reserved for nobles and official residences.
Our Joglo has served its original owners in Central Java as a residence for at least five generations, or approximate 150 years. In 2010 it was dismantled by a group of Javanese carpenters, shipped and re-erected at its current location in Ungasan.
